Skagway offered wonderful shops and buckets of tourists. The cruise ships brought thousands in all at once. Many of the shops were the same ones we saw on our Caribean cruise so obviously supported by the cruise lines.
The Salmon were running up the streams and small creeks to spawn. They were exhausted and many did not make it.
Janice and i found the Kiviut shop where the Muskox wool was under $85 per skein. Our best day was the trip up the mountain on the White Pass RR. There were 2 routes to Dawson City during the Gold Rush. White Pass and Chilkoot Pass where thousands of pack horses fell over the cliffs and the Canadian Border would not allow anyone through unless they had enough provisions for 1 year and that was for each family member. A pound under 2,000 and they were sent back!
